Green River: Boats

  2. For some reason, I never saw this when I was living there and I lived right on the river. Must have flown home for the weekend both times. I can't get over how green they can get that water. It's amazing. Love the McDonald's shake!

  3. Vivid indeed, I was really impressed with the river on my first St. Patrick's Day in Chicago a couple of years ago.

    Sharon - you must have been out of town because you would had noticed the chaos and madness in the city. Next year St. Patrick's Day actually falls on a Saturday, so it should be a extra crazy. The Shamrock Shake float was clever marketing by McDonald's.

  5. From what I know they basically dump an emerald green dye from buckets into the river and circle the boats around the water to stir. I'm not aware of the chemical composition of the dye and I believe very few do. I'm sure there are some environmentalists against this tradition.
