Liquidation at the Pump Room

The Pump Room was once the famous celebrity stomping ground at the Ambassador East Hotel in the Gold Coast.  Everything from the kitchen silverware to Frank Sinatra's booth 1 will be sold throughout the week.  In fact for a little over $4,000 you could own the entire booth including the table, drapes and window.  While I wasn't fortunate enough to stop by here for a drink before the closing and remodel phase, I was able to pickup a large mirror from the one of hotel rooms.  The list of stars the Pump Room has hosted include Bette Davis, Clark Gable, Robert Redford, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Sammy Davis, Jr., Eddie Murphy, Michael J. Fox, and Mick Jagger among dozens of others.  Phil Collins released his 1985 album, "No Jacket Required," a title that was inspired by an incident at the Pump Room where he was denied admittance based on what he was wearing.

  1. Andrew, Your Grandfather would have been there and would have come home with some prized souvenir. He and your Grandmother spent many a night imbibing and listening to music there.
He loved this kind of souvenir and when the Queen Mary was "liquidated" (actually striped for retrofitting as a hotel), I got him a toilet which he highly prized and used as an outdoor planter in several homes. The instant I saw your beautiful photos I thought of him.
