The last remaining high-rise at Cabrini Green is scheduled to be demolished today. Two days ago, 134 LED lights were placed in each of the vacant apartments at 1230 N Burling. This art installation is a community based project headed by Jan Tichy, artist and professor of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. At night the flickering lights can be seen within the Burling building at the corner of Division and Haldsted Streets. The lights will fall along with the building throughout the month-long demolition. I will be returning to photograph the site throughout the month of April. I have been out of town for several months. I particularly appreciate this post to keep in touch w/ the city. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'll be posting more from Cabrini Green throughout the weekend and next week. In the next couple of weeks I'll be launching my website with an entire series on Cabrini Green. I like what SAIC has done with their art installation, however if I had ever believed that anything is haunted the Burling building would be it. The flickering lights reminds me of the movie Poltergeist.
